Q1: What is the condo's calendar availability, how can I check if my dates are available?

Q2: What are the rates, how much will it cost us to stay?
Rates in Penticton vary by season based on demand, with November to April being the cheapest, and July and August being the most expensive. We offer discounts for weekly and for monthly stays, as well as a discount for returning guests.  We also raise our rates for certain periods where specific events take place that increase overall demand. So because of those factors our nightly rates vary a lot. For accurate pricing, enter your desired dates in the booking form and you'll get an instant quote on screen that has no hidden extras.

Q3: What is the cancellation policy?
Guest receives 100% (less cancellation fee) if cancellation occurs more than 14 days before arrival; Guest receives 50% (less cancellation fee) if cancellation occurs more than 7 days before arrival; No refunds within 7 days of arrival.

Q4: How is the final quote calculated for the dates I selected?
The final quote is a simple formula of three components: base rate + the fixed cleaning fee, Canadian Goods and Services Tax, BC Sales Tax, and a Local Tax known as MRDT.  The fixed cleaning fee is also why it isn't cost-effective to stay for a small number of nights in a vacation rental condo. Additional fees are added on third-party sites like Airbnb and VRBO, which is beyond our control.  The cheapest way to make a reservation is directly on our website. 

Q5: Before I book, I have a question, how do I contact you?
Use our booking form to fill in your details, and then instead of the "Book now" button, select the "Ask Us a Question" button.

Q6: How can I book?
Use our booking form to enter your dates and other details and choose the "Book now" button to review the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, then choose your payment method (in US dollars currency), and complete the process online. There is also a refundable security/damage deposit of $275 due 30 days prior to arrival. You'll receive a confirmation email when you are done.

Q7: I only rent condos that are legally permitted.  Do you have the approval from all levels of government and a strata council to operate?
We are a licensed facility by the City of Penticton, our Strata, and also registered with the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia to collect and remit taxes.   A decal on our door from the City of Penticton confirms that we are legal. We respect the needs of local governments and the need to make sure all local businesses are licensed. We are a proud member of Tourism Penticton. 

Q8: Are there extra fees, e.g. for internet/WiFi, parking, laundry, resort fees, paying by CC, etc?
No, there are no credit card fees or additional fees for anything. Fast Wi-Fi is included, as is parking.  Most guests will fit in the garage, if your vehicle does not fit you can park in one of the empty parking spots in front of the garage, or on the street at the front of the building.  You will find a washer/dryer in the condo (including Laundry soap and fabric sheets), a Dishwasher (including dishwasher soap), and ample Toilet Paper and Paper Towels, however, if you need more, please let us know, and we will bring some to you.  You are not required to pay a separate fee for any service we provide.  We offer some of our branded items for sale, and a price list is available. All profits from the sale of these items are redirected to support our adopted Elephant, Kainuk. You may follow the instructions to pay or message us, and we can come and get cash.  The price of our Condo is the same regardless of whether there is 1 person staying in the condo or if it is a maximum of 6 people.  Please let us know if you have more guests than originally stated in your reservation, and as long as it is six or fewer you will not be charged extra..

Q9: Does the kitchen/condo include item XYZ?
The answer is almost certainly "yes." Our kitchen not only looks great (see photos), but it is also fully equipped. In addition to a fridge, stove and microwave, you will find an Air fryer, Instant Pot, Dash Waffle Maker, Dash Egg Boiler/omelette maker, and a deluxe Ninja Coffee Maker, just to name a few.  If you have some specific item in mind, please ask us before you go. If you found the one item we don't have, we may be willing to purchase it starting with your stay (or even during)!  Dale is kind of a geek when it comes to gadgets and cooking, so we like hearing about things that we should add.  And hey - want some brilliant kitchen hacks to try - these are cool.  

Q10: Is the bed comfortable?
Yes, and see it in our photos. We purchase high-end products for our Condo as we want you to have a great experience. 

Q11: Why “Elephants”
Great Question.  In the early ’70s, Dale and his Sister Trudi purchased their mom (Ann) her first elephant.  Over the years and up to 2006, she collected over 800 elephants throughout her house.  Friends, family and others would often bring her one to add to her collection.  In 1986, their house was burnt to the ground by an arsonist.  “Grandma” was heartbroken and said she would never collect another elephant again.  But Debbie had a different thought and decided she would buy her an elephant (and this was even before she realized she loved Grandma’s son, Dale).  The collection started to grow.   In the mid-’90s, Dale’s Mom and Dad (Pat) retired and decided to open a Bed and Breakfast in Lillooet, BC, called Elephant Cottage, which they operated until health reasons caused them to close in 2005.  By the time she passed away in 2015, she had collected over 1000 from all over the world, with many sent by guests who had stayed at the B and B.  Pat refused to get rid of any, but when he passed in 2020, we disposed of some.  But we did keep some of Grandma’s favourites.  When we decided to open a Short Term Rental, Debbie came up with the idea of incorporating the elephants into the experience and suggested the name Grandma’s Elephant Hideaway.  A place where family, including kids, parents, grandparents, and friends, could come together, have fun and enjoy the comforts of home.  We hope you enjoy it and have some fun.  Many of our guests have counted the elephants, voted on their favourite ones, and even had fun with “hide a seek the elephant.”  We hope you do too.  And do not forget to take your little Elephant that will be on the counter when you arrive.    

Q12: Is Penticton a good area to stay in the Okanagan?  Why did you decide to buy a condo there?
For a long time, Penticton was our favourite location in BC to visit.  Over the years, we watched our City grow and become a wine and brewery centre.  The Naramata Bench has some of BC’s best wineries, and downtown is full of great restaurants, breweries and cool retail shops.  And ICE CREAM that you do not want to miss.  We decided on Penticton in 2020 when we purchased our first Condo and decided we would share it with visitors like you.  But in the summer of 2021, the decision was made that we just wanted to live in the City and purchased another Condo and sold our home in Chilliwack, BC.  Being just up from one of the Okanagan's best beaches helped us decide this is where we wanted to call home. Q13: We have never booked a vacation rental condo directly from the owner, so we are nervous about booking with you - can we trust you?
It is not an unreasonable feeling for first-timers; indeed, we feel like that whenever we book vacation rental condos at other destinations. No, as per our Privacy Policy, we will never share your data or information with anyone else.

When we stay at vacation rentals, we always want to hear from past guests, so we recommend you read our guest reviews.  Several reviews on this page are from before October 8, 2021, when we took over the management from our property manager.
